The southern Sydney suburb of Wolli Creek will welcome an exciting new community venture with its first market set to launch at Discovery Point next month on Saturday, September 3rd, 9am-3pm.
The aptly named Discovery Markets will consist of a number of carefully selected boutique stalls offering fresh local produce, gourmet bites, fashion and homewares. Alongside this, there will be live music, art demonstrations and children’s entertainment as well as opportunities for visitors to get involved with work shops, cooking demonstrations and communal herb gardens.
The team at Discovery Markets are keen to provide Sydney’s southern suburbs with more than just a place to browse and buy locally produced goods. As Jacob Collier and Rupert Partridge, the market organisers who are also behind the Brewery Yard Markets in Chippendale, explain:
“Every stallholder has a unique story to tell, and at Discovery Markets we want this to be recognised by giving our visitors the opportunity to learn more about what they’re buying and who they’re buying it from.”
Founding stallholders who will be attending on the 3rd include: Donut Papi, Steve’s Easy Squeeze, Kandel Soy Candles, East Coast Slider Shack, Haus of Harley, J’s Collection, Paella Del Mar, Wajacreations, Black Market Roasters.
What’s more, in celebration of the markets’ launch, Resident Teacher at Vive Cooking School and Head Chef of Jamie’s Italian, Steffen Achtmann, will be holding a free ‘Pasta Making Masterclass’ from 11am-1pm for twenty lucky visitors. Those interested can register via www.vivecookingschool.com.au/discoverymarkets. For those looking for a more musical challenge, there will also be ukulele workshops from Work-Shop held by Tom the Pom at 12pm and 1:30pm.
Matt Branagan, co-founder of Work-Shop, said:
“We’re really excited to partner with Discovery Markets and have Tom the Pom, one of our brightest and most charismatic teachers, bring the joys and sounds of the Hawaiian islands to the Discovery Point community.”
Commenting on the positive impact Discovery Markets is set to bring to local residents, Terresa Parish, Community Facilitator at Connections, added:
“The markets are set to compliment this vibrant and flourishing village community and I have no doubt they will become one of the sustainable elements of our social infrastructure here at Discovery Point.”
Echoing this, Warren Alexander, one of Wolli Creek’s longest standing residents, said:
“It’s very exciting for everyone in the community to finally be getting a market, especially when they’re as special as what the Discovery Markets will be – I cant wait!”
The Discovery Markets are set to launch Saturday, September 3rd and will be held on the first and third Saturday of every month from 9am to 3pm at Discovery Point, Wolli Creek. There will be over 40 stalls, live music, art demonstrations and ample onsite parking available.
